How net salary is calculated in Greece (2026)

Net salary is what’s left of your gross pay after two deductions: employee social-security contributions to e-EFKA (13.37% of gross, capped at €7,761.94/month) and income tax, charged on taxable income (gross minus contributions) under the 2026 tax scale (Law 5246/2025).

A tax credit is then subtracted (€777 with no children, up to €1,340 with four), reduced by €20 per €1,000 of taxable income above €12,000. In 2026, reduced rates apply to employees aged 30 and under and to parents — see the FAQ below.

On top of the gross salary, the employer pays 21.79% in employer contributions. The calculator’s blue card shows the total employer cost.

Frequently asked questions

How is net salary calculated from gross in Greece?

Two deductions come out of gross pay: employee social-security contributions (e-EFKA, 13.37%) and income tax under the 2026 tax scale (Law 5246/2025), after the tax credit is subtracted. Net salary = gross − EFKA − income tax.

How much is a €1,000 gross salary in net pay in 2026?

About €827 net per month for a full-time private-sector employee over 30 with no children, paid in 14 installments. Use the calculator above for your exact case.

What is the minimum wage in Greece in 2026?

As of April 1, 2026, the statutory minimum wage is €920 gross per month (14 payments), and the minimum daily wage is €41.09. That works out to roughly €772 net per month for an employee with no children.

What’s the difference between 12 and 14 salary payments?

Most private-sector employees in Greece are paid 14 times a year: 12 monthly salaries plus the Christmas bonus (one full salary), the Easter bonus (half a salary) and the leave allowance (half a salary). Choosing 12 spreads the same annual amount over 12 payments.

Do young employees pay less tax in 2026?

Yes. Under Law 5246/2025, employees aged 25 and under pay 0% tax on annual income up to €20,000, and those aged 26–30 pay 9% instead of 20% in the €10,000–20,000 bracket.

How do children affect income tax?

Children lower your tax in two ways: reduced rates in the €10,000–30,000 brackets (e.g., the second bracket drops from 20% to 18%/16%/9% for 1/2/3 children and to 0% for 4 or more) and a higher tax credit (from €777 with no children up to €1,340 with four).

How much does an employee cost the employer?

The employer pays the gross salary plus 21.79% in employer social-security contributions. For example, a €1,000 gross salary costs the employer about €1,218 per month.

When are the Christmas bonus, Easter bonus and leave allowance paid?

The Christmas bonus is paid by December 21, the Easter bonus on Holy Wednesday, and the leave allowance when you take your annual leave, usually in the summer.
